Oakenholt In Bloom

Oakenholt In Bloom

Last year, Oakenholt started working with volunteers, local businesses and people from the local community to maintain the grounds at the centre. The project has been a fantastic opportunity for People We Support at all levels to develop new skills, learn about the environment and work in collaboration with the local community.

People We Support have really enjoyed being part of the project and have got stuck in painting tables, tidying the outside areas, learning how to look after plants and flowers and finding out about the wildlife that gardens attract.

As a result of this collaborative work, the grounds look fantastic. People from the local community began to come to the centre to compliment how beautiful the centre looks. The People We Support and our staff have felt a huge sense of achievement.

Because the improvements looked so good, the staff team decided to enter the North West ‘Britain in Bloom’ which is a nationwide competition run by the Royal Horticultural Society. The People We Support attended an award ceremony in Southport and were awarded a Level 3 ‘Advancing’ for all of their hard work.

Following the success of this project last year, Oakenholt want to continue this work into 2019 and have been keeping the grounds clean and tidy over the Winter months ready for the Spring and Summer.

If you would like to get involved in this project you can contact the centre on 0151 666 3867 (http://www.wirralevolutions.org/content/item/335-oakenholt)
