View From The Chair - April 2018

View from the Chair #2:  Issued 3rd April 2018

Well a lot has happened in the last two months; we are moving at a considerable pace and there have been a number of positive developments that I want to share with you as we enter the new financial year.

Firstly, we have appointed two new Non-Executive Directors.  Pam Williams joined us in February and has responsibility for Risk and Audit.  Pam had a long successful career in local government corporate finance and she is also a serving Non-Executive Director at Merseycare NHS Trust.  Our second appointment is Jean Stephens, who join the Board 1st of April with responsibility for Change and Transformation.  Jean is currently the Chief Executive of the Merseyside Sports Partnership.   I would like to welcome both and I know that the knowledge, experience and professionalism that both will bring to the Wirral Evolutions Board can only strengthen us going forward into this period of change and transformation.

On that note, I am aware that many of you took the opportunity to be part of the Shapers and Makers groups. These groups are playing an invaluable role in shaping the new business plan and helping to co-design our new ways of working. Dave Fergus, our Interim Managing Director has kept the Board updated on the great work that has already been done.  I and other members of the Board will be there on 17th April, when Shapers and Makers representatives are coming together to share progress and ideas.

At the end of February we presented our emerging Purpose and Strategy to the Shareholder Board, we now want to share it with you and other key stakeholders (such as parents and carers).  This is important, as we want to ensure our foundations are strong and that we are all working towards the same common goals. Your help and input in finalising our strategy is essential and we hope to start this process at the 17th of April meeting.  This will be the first of a series of discussion events, so if you are not part of Shapers and Makers group don’t worry, you will have the opportunity to contribute and have your voice heard.

On the theme of communication, the WE website is being refreshed and I encourage all staff to participate in the online staff survey which we will be launching in April.

At our last meeting, the Board discussed and approved the recruitment of 12FTE permanent posts.  This will remove our over reliance on agency support and provide greater consistency and continuity of service for clients and students.

I and the rest of the Board look forward to working with you all to ensure that Wirral Evolutions will be the provider of choice for the residents of Wirral and beyond.  For now, I thank you for all your continued hard work and commitment.
